A broken, unused, or unwanted hot tub isn't something you can just haul to the curb. It's heavy, awkward to move, and almost never fits through a gate or doorway in one piece. Here's what actually goes into removing one, what drives the cost, and what to expect.
What actually drives the cost
We price hot tub removal the same way we price everything else: by how much room the debris takes up in our trailer. A few things determine where a job lands in that range:
- Size and construction. A larger tub with a wood cabinet and full skirting breaks down into more material than a smaller acrylic shell.
- Water. A full tub needs to be drained before it can be moved, which adds a step to the job.
- Access. A tub on a ground-level patio with a clear path is straightforward. One on a deck, behind a fence, or down a flight of stairs takes more time and care.
- Disassembly. Almost every hot tub needs to be cut or broken down on-site since it won't fit through a standard gate or door whole.
How the pricing actually works
Once the tub is broken down, it's priced by how much space it takes up in the trailer — a full load is $800 and includes up to 3,000 lbs, every eighth of that is $100, and our minimum charge is $199. A free walkthrough is the only way to get an exact number, since access and construction vary so much from tub to tub.
Why this isn't a DIY job for most people
Hot tubs are one of the few items we'd actively steer most homeowners away from tackling alone:
- They're extremely heavy. Even empty, most tubs weigh several hundred pounds — enough to make moving one alone a real injury risk.
- They don't fit through normal openings. Cutting the shell and frame apart safely takes the right tools and know-how.
- Most bulk trash pickups won't take them. Curbside cleanup days typically exclude hot tubs entirely, leaving you to find disposal on your own.
- The equipment underneath. Pumps, motors, and wiring need to be safely disconnected before the shell comes out.
